Twin Toddler & Family Portraits in San Francisco Golden Gate Park

Boy how time flies!  It seems like no time had passed since I was photographing this dynamic duo in my studio as 7 month olds – but now they were 16 month old active walking, talking toddlers – and an on location family portrait session in San Francisco Golden Gate Park was definitely the ticket for these twin girls and their parents.   Outdoor child photography is a great alternative to studio photography for toddlers and young children because the great outdoors provides a larger space for these little ones to roam and be their curious, fun-loving selves.

This family was looking for fine art child photography that was artistic and captured their toddler’s personalities in a way that was authentic and memorable.  The result of sessions like these are often best translated into a few key wall portraits along with a custom designed book to weave together the bulk of the images to truly portray the subjects and their relationships.  The parents supplied text for the book detailing the girls at this age in a way that is sure to be treasured for generations to come.

Golden Gate Park is an amazing location for artistic, natural light family portraits. This classic San Francisco spot is one of my favorites for toddlers allowing me to  capture a wide variety of looks within a relatively compact area. Thus the whole session take about an hour – including clothing changes and a few snack breaks along the way ;)  We kicked things off at the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers to get some family pictures and portraits of the twins just playing with each other. We also went to a giant fern garden in GG Park for some shots of the fraternal twins interacting in the grass and hanging out in rustic looking garden chairs that we brought for the set. Bubbles, balls and flowers all provided great props for toddler photography, and allowed the twins to have a fun time while being photographed. We wrapped up the day against the backdrop of majestic pillars, iron gates and ivy-covered walls at one of my secret spots in Golden Gate Park. Classic yet contemporary family portraits will always be in vogue!  Here are layouts from the resulting coffee table album…

San Francisco Children’s Photographer : Fun Toddler Portraits at the Palace of Fine Arts in SF

We headed over to the Palace of Fine Arts with two-year-old Katie for an action-packed session with this spirited toddler.  This outdoor shoot allowed us to take advantage of the great natural light for children’s photography in San Francisco.

The Palace of Fine Arts was a great spot for adventurous young Katie to play, run free, feed the birds, and stomp around in her adorable rain boots and stylish outfits.

San Francisco Child Photographer – The Many Faces of Toddler Portraits

I love the days when I get to photograph little faces of growing children who I first photographed when they were only a few days old. I am so intrigued at how the essence of this person was there right from those first portraits, and I look into their faces now and think, "I know this little face. I have seen this face before".  And it tickles me so much to see them laugh and hear them talk. Human beings are simply amazing.  Last week I had one of those days – when Grace came back to my studio in Alameda for newborn family portraits with her baby sister Mia.  Grace is now two years old and both she and Mia did really well in the session. At the end of the session I took the opportunity to shoot some quick pics of Grace alone while they were dressing Mia.  I think I spent about three minutes shooting, and she gave me so many faces!  Now she is a busy little two year old and would not have stayed put for me, but I used a little trick where I put her up on a stool that is too tall for her to get off by herself – so she stayed in one place and entertained me be showing me where her nose was and playing peek-a-boo, and just being her beautiful, funny little Gracie self. We picked favorites from these few moments and created this 6-up collage that captures sweet Grace at two years old.
