Bay Area Senior Portraits : Urban Beach Session with Two Natalie’s

It is almost graduating time for the Class of 2012, and two best friends came to me to have their “real senior portraits” done. Both named Natalie, they go by “Nat” and “Nay” – and these two girls wanted  cool, urban san francisco senior portraits that also included nature scenes and the golden gate bridge. No problem – the San Francisco Presidio has it all! We started out at Baker Beach – then worked our way through armories and woodsy meadows. Nat and Nay did plenty of solo shots but also some bff shots. Double senior sessions are a great way to photograph your high school portraits – you save some $ on your session fee, and having your friend around can be inspiring and adds to the overall experience.  We had met a week earlier in my Alameda studio  to plan and discuss outfits, accessories & style – so the day of the session we had nothing left to do but have fun and capture these girls on a gorgeous day.

Bay Area Senior Photographer : Highschool Portraits at San Francisco Baker Beach

It was one of those very rare days at the San Francisco Beaches – clear and 75 degrees at 9am – wow! Lindsay wanted to have her high school photographs at the beach with a little bit of interesting architectural backgrounds as well. The armory attached to baker beach was perfect to provide a distressed, edgy look.   We met in the parking lot for her san francisco beach senior portraits and went through her various outfits to plan out the session.  Lindsay has an easy going manner that is very natural and fluid, so we went for very simple styling.  Here are some of my favs from the session….

Starting at Baker Beach – we did some easy photographs on the beach. We included the Golden Gate Bridge in a few of her beach high school portraits, and also made sure to capture the Northern California coastline features.

then we headed to the armory to find some cool, unique backgrounds that would set off her blue eyes…

We finished with a few quick shots in the San Francisco Presidio – some of my favorites were with this iron gate which made a nice graphic and also made me think about cross roads – an apt symbol for a graduating high school senior :)

and in case you were wondering if she got wet at the beach…. she did….

San Francisco Children’s Photographer : Fun Family Portaits with a 5 year old in the Marina

Now that we are at the end of summer in the Bay Area, it is a *fantastic* time for outdoor location portrait sessions. We generally have the best weather of the entire year in the months of September and October.  Lifestyle family portraits on location in the Bay Area is a great adventure -  as evidenced at this session below of 5 year old Sarah and her energetic parents at the Marina district in San Francisco.

We started off the session at the Palace of Fine Arts where Sarah had fun playing make-believe, jumping around, weaving in and out of the stunning columns that make up the palace and hanging out with her mom and dad. I usually bring some fun things for kids to do at the shoot  – as here where I brought along paper umbrellas, various colorful flowers in season, bubbles and ribbon wands to spark Sarah’s imagination.

During weekday mornings, the Palace of Fine Arts is a great spot for playful family portraits because there is plenty of room for kids to roam around.

We continued the adventure at nearby Chrissy Fields. Though it seems like the foggy mornings typical to San Francisco might pose a threat to beach photography, they actually make for very lovely natural light.

The fog also kept the beach empty enough for Sarah to run around and play and show us her interesting, multifaceted personality.

Creative, fun action shots, as well as relaxed portraiture were all achieved.

That’s a wrap!

San Francisco Modern Family Portraits – Three Sisters Album

Each year I have the delightful task of capturing modern Bay Area family portraits for the Ousterhout Ma family. At the post consultation after we have narrowed to their favorite images, we choose some for wall art in their home and the rest of the favorites for the yearly album. In addition to the images, my client supplies quotes, text, and current information about each girl. I love the way it adds to the album to integrate the personalized text with the images. This is a square album designed with a vintage distress look – leather cover with a square cameo…
