The first birthday is a Big Celebration for every family!
Equally as important as the baby turning one year old is the celebration for the parents of having this being in their lives for 12 months. Many are also celebrating
the end of infancy and looking forward to the emerging toddler as most 12 month olds are either walking or on the verge of walking. Because these curious, happy creatures tend to be very active at this age, I am a big fan of morning location sessions for one year portraits so that the baby has room to roam. I have many locations that I use – depending on the interests of the family – that are safe for early walkers, while still being fun for the baby and visually engaging for the natural light baby and family portraits. The one year session is a great time for some fun family portraits as well as some lifestyle images of the family playing together. I also take plenty of time for solos of the baby.
Many parent take the baby’s first birthday off from work – and this is a perfect day to schedule a morning birthday session! The session itself is very fun, and clients have always told me it was the best way they could have spent the morning of their child’s first birthday – playing and laughing together.
But what if you missed getting the portraits done at 12 months old? Yes – this happens too. People get so busy with their lives and the family birthday party that they miss setting up the one year portraits. Well that is fine too – in my book a 14 or 15 month old can still have “one year portraits” done. Once you get much past that age however you usually have a full blown toddler on your hands!
